Remember When
By Dean Martin
This past weekend we were invited to participate in a Fourth of July parade in Centerville, Ohio. It was a beautiful morning with lots of sunshine. It was definitely a day to enjoy. It has been many years since I’ve been to a parade and even longer since I’ve been a participant. Since my brother Rich drove the car in the parade (he only got in trouble twice for spinning tires), I was able to hang out and actually be a spectator for the entire...

Anyway you slice it, a Grand-Am/NASCAR doubleheader is a good thing, affording sport-car racing a chance to piggy-back on NASCAR’s immense popularity while maintaining its own identity. And of course, it sure doesn’t hurt when the doubleheader is held at the World Center of Racing – Daytona International Speedway.
The combination also affords the opportunity for NASCAR drivers to do a “one-off” appearance in a sports car.
We have all of this...

Daytona is overwhelming.
History permeates Watkins Glen.
But an argument could easily be made that here, in the heart of Ohio, beats the heart of sports car racing in America.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, just outside the out-of-the-way town of Lexington, is a reminder of the glory days of the sport in this country, just as much as Daytona and the Glen. But it’s also a respite from the inexorable march to reclaim those glory days. Once you drive inside...

After a wonderful dinner at Tarpy's last night after yesterday's strong results, where Peter Ludwig managed to butt his way onto the table after sharing some of his Columbus Salame sponsor's fabulous salami and sausage with us, we all dived deep under the Embassy Suites' covers and emerged to a hotter, clearer Saturday than forecast. Temperatures climbed quickly and made the track slippery, challenging the engineers to tame these beasts so the drivers could maintain their times.
Practice 3...

Hi, Nic Jonsson here. After our inaugural win with the Proto Auto Lola in New Jersey, I would like to reach out and say a big thank you to all of you that contacted me through emails, text messages, Facebook and phone calls I received. It had been quite some time since we stood on top of the podium so it really means a lot to hear these encouraging words. It was a great feeling for me personally, but to deliver this win for the whole Krohn Racing team was extra special. That crew has...

Leaving Manhattan yesterday afternoon, driving through the Lincoln Tunnel and bursting out into the New Jersey sunshine, I was struck by the first in a series of weird signs. The first was an exit sign to a very preppy sounding Weehawken, NJ. I think they've taken this PC stuff way too far; I much prefer the original Indian name, Little Eagle. Then further down the NY Turnpike a huge sign for Metuchen Amboy - me ain't touchin' that one! At the final exit to...

Hi Nic Jonsson here again! Wow, where do I start…this was a race filled week for me! I raced in the KONI Challenge on Saturday afternoon with Kinetic Motorsports, a team I share ownership in. I then raced in the Rolex series with the “mean green Krohn machine” on Sunday with Krohn Racing so my buns got some seat time!
To start, the KONI race was a real challenge for us at Kinetic. We ran 5 cars, all in GS. We ran two new BMW E92 M3’s and three...

We knew The Thunderbolt racetrack was not going to favor the Mustang and our strategy going in was to play it a little conservative and get a solid finish. We were hoping for better than an 8th place finish, but if that’s the worst we do this year, we’ll be pleased.
The track was more challenging than anticipated. This was primarily due to the addition of a chicane and a combined ST/GS field. The chicane aided to take away a passing zone for the Mustangs and...

Although fans of Grand-Am's KONI Challenge are accustomed to seeing Compass360 Racing's bright orange Honda Civic Si's at the front of the field, they were treated to a rare sight as our team's three cars swept the podium at New Jersey Motorsports Park's Thunderbolt Raceway last Saturday.
After placing two different cars on the podium in each of the opening races of the 2009 KONI season, we brought an exceptionally potent driver lineup to the New Jersey event, doing our best to stack...
