Hi there, Nic here again. Well, I’ve been out of the loop for a few weeks because I’ve been in Europe testing on a project that is supported and involves GM Motorsports. The project is based on the new Camaro for the Scandinavian market. They are racing in something they call the Camaro Cup in Sweden and it’s very popular. It’s similar to what Trans-Am has here in the States. The new Camaro is based on a tube frame chassis built in the United States by HOWE Racing, who has a great track record from many years of building chassis. The concept is to have a proper race car with a very competitive price tag. They run on Michelin tires with a Ohlin shocks, which give them a really good platform. My job has been to come up with a good spring, sway bar, ride height and brake package to get them in the “box” to make the car drivable for those with various driving skills and experience levels. The idea is to have three different front springs, two rear, three front sway bars and two rear, minimum ride height, etc. The idea here is to control cost and keep the cars as close and competitive as possible. This new car is being introduced for the 2010 season. The previous car is based on the production Camaro Z28 from 2002 so there is no comparison of the two cars on any account.
When it comes to the Krohn Racing team, even though we have not been racing with the DP lately, we have been testing to improve the car and overcome the issues we’ve had during this season. Our goal is to be back next year stronger and better than ever. I’m pretty sure that the DP field will be even tougher in 2010 with some new teams coming in so we have to make sure we do our homework and are ready when Test days for the Rolex 24 comes around in January. Since we’re not racing the latter part of this season, it’s even more important for us to make sure we continue development so we don’t fall behind the rest of the teams. It’s very difficult to catch back up after the season starts.
On a personal note, my son Max is growing so fast and learning new things on daily basis. He just turned two years old and is really starting to develop his own personality and learning way too fast how to get exactly what he wants. Yes, I’m a sucker and melt like butter in sunshine when he comes to me and ask for something that Mommy already said “No” to. Not good but hey, it is what it is, and I’m sure it all works out in the end. Have a great week and make sure to be careful and take care of each other.
Your friend, Nic
