For the record, Sylvain Tremblay was first out of the pits in today's test at Indy ... but Scott Pruett was first to complete a lap.
Opening drivers:
70 - Sylvain Tremblay; 01 - Scott pruett; 57 - Andrew Davis; 6 - Michael Valiante; 10 - Wayne Taylor; 68 - Kevin Buckler; 87 - Dirk Werner; 90 - Buddy Rice; 99 - Jon Fogarty.
Currently underway with two hours on the Formula One course. At noon, drivers will reconvene for a feedback session, then a media availability. At 1 p.m., they will run on the same direction on the MotoGP course, run 20-30 minutes, then decide whether to continue on GP course or go back to the F1.
"We're not here to set the world on fire; we're here to get compatability feedback from you," Mark Raffauf said at the driver meeting. Raffauf urged the drivers to run in small groups once they got familiar with the circuit. "On the front straight you'll be going as fast as you'll ever go." "Stay off the grass - it's beautiful." "The curbs here aren't as aggressive as what you're used to."
Kevin Buckler brought the No. 68 - "It's in the TRG colors."
While this is the first sanctioned Rolex Series test, Tony George ran a few laps in his Crawford on a warm January morning after damaging his Daytona Prototype in a Daytona test session. Ed Carpenter and Stephane Gregoire also drove that day.
Carpenter also is expected to run a few laps today in the Spirit of Daytona Coyote. Coyote franchise owner Eddie Cheever is also here for the test, joining Buddy Rice as two Indy 500 winners on the grounds ... that doesn't count the 40-odd Indy 500-winning cars on display in the Speedway Museum (including all four A.J. Foyt winner and Mario's).
While Memo Rojas is driving at IMS for the first time, he finished third on the oval at O'Reilly Motorsports Park the night before the Indy 500 a few years ago in a Formula Ford 2000.
Duke Johnson, a former Pro Sports 2000 driver, is on hand to watch his son Mike take a few laps in the Stevenson Pontiac.
No times are being taken at the test.
